Reader's Workshop

Reading Mini-Lesson
I intend to use a board called "The FACE of a Reader." It is a list of Fluency, Accuracy, Comprehension, and Extended Vocabulary Strategies. My reading lessons will focus on these strategies.
Individualized Daily Reading
When students have Individualized Daily Reading, students read just right books from their book boxes. Students take their book box and find a book nook around the room. They use this time to practice the skill that was taught during the Reading Mini-Lesson. While students are reading I might pull guided reading groups based on reading strategies and skills, I might pull a skill based reading groups or I might hold 1on1 reading conferences.
Guided Reading Groups
Children will receive small group instruction using text that are above their current independent reading level to practice the reading strategies they are particularly having difficulty with.
Partner Reading
Children will read with a peer that is on or near their current reading level. They will sit shoulder to shoulder as they take turns reading 1-2 books aloud to one another.
Word Study
They will be working with their weekly word sort. After they finish sorting their words they will have several other word study activities to complete to help increase vocabulary and improve spelling. This also includes tailored interactive smartboard lessons that focus on grammar and phonics skills.
Reading Tic Tac Toe
Children will each have a card that is to be kept inside of their book boxes. Upon completing a book during Individualized Reading they will be able to chose an activity from the Tic Tac Toe card to complete. These activities are adaptable to any book that your child may read and they help them to further practice the skills being taught in Reader's Workshop.
