Each Day I write a message to the class. Students will follow along with me as I read the message aloud. I try to incorporate new vocabulary within the message along with minor spelling and punctuation errors for the children to catch and correct on the smartboard after I have read the message. This helps them with learning how to implement editing and revising in their own writing.
Mini Lesson
Mini lessons will consist of teaching about the writing process, the traits and the genres of writing required by my school system.
Having Some QT
During this time I will play classical music and everyone, including myself, will quietly write, draw, or think for 10 minutes in their free writing journals.
Independent Writing
After the QT, I will turn off the music and students have independent writing time. Students will complete their writing to the best of their ability as it moves through the stages of the writing process. During this time students are applying the skills they've learned from the mini lesson in their own pieces.
Teacher Conferences
I will be monitoring students during this time and conferring with students who are scheduled for a conference that day.
Star Writer
After our writing block I will allow 1-2 students who have signed up for author's chair to share. During this time the audience will "question & compliment" the author.
